Colombo Acting Magistrate Sampath Jayawardena ordered that a pregnant woman who was arrested by the Police in connection with a case of pawning a gold necklace taken from a neighbouring woman to go to a wedding, be released on a bail of 10000 rupees.
She is said to have pawned the gold necklace taken from a neighboring woman for getting the necessary items for the childbirth.
The pregnant woman who was arrested had gone into labor and was admitted to the Castle Hospital Colombo where she gave birth.
Acting Magistrate Sampath Jayawardena who had gone to the hospital granted bail to the suspect.
When questioned about the incident, she stated that she had pawned the necklace obtained from the other woman to purchase the necessary items for her confinement.
