Pregnancy Cravings / Cow & Gate Community Ambassador Mum

There are a few common things that most everyone associates with pregnancy.  Among them are things like morning sickness, stretch marks, tiredness, and of course – cravings.

A poll from Cow & Gate Baby Club Community reveals a third of pregnant women (31%) are just as likely to find the object of their craving in a chemist or hardware store, as they are in a supermarket, as they admit to unusual hankerings for non-food items, such as soap (11%), chalk (6%) and toothpaste (5%), as well as creative combos such as sausages and jam.

My own cravings weren't too odd during pregnancy. I went through phases, eating or drinking something at every meal for days on end until I sickened myself before moving onto the next.

Some of my cravings included -
Mashed potato with curry sauce on the top, but it had to be curry sauce from the Chinese, and the potato had to be really buttery, I ate it for tea every night for over a week.
Heinz Tomato ketchup, but only from a glass bottle that had been in the fridge. I ate it with a spoon.
Chicken and Mushroom pot noodles with a bag of wotsits emptied into the top so it goes all mushy and soggy. Delicious!

Heinz tomato soup with milk in it - at least a good 50% / 50% milk ratio.
Strangely I also craved smells, particularly cleaning products and Fairy fabric softener. There's nothing I'd have loved more that to sit in the bathroom after cleaning the toilet with bleach, just having a good sniff! Thankfully at no point did I think licking or tasting the bleach would be a good idea.

The C&G Baby Club Community survey found the most popular cravings to be sweet chocolate (30%); sour pickles (29%); and salty crisps (28%). With some of the more unconventional individual responses including rubber, paint and rocks, while one person even said tree bark and another the smell of tennis balls.

At some point during pregnancy, nearly half of mums-to-be (49%) have felt embarrassed by their cravings, with a majority turning to an online delivery service to stock up on their unusual urges (34%).
"The survey reveals almost half of mums are embarrassed about their hankerings, however, this doesn't need to be the case. If they need reassurance they can speak to a nutritionist or if they're just looking to share and chat about their own experiences, even the wackiest moments, they can visit the C&G Baby Club Community, a safe and reassuring place where likeminded mums can connect."
I am pleased to say I have recently joined the C&G Baby Club Community as an ambassador. Being a first time mother is very scary, Google has become my fountain of knowledge, so it's extremely helpful to have an online support network where I can ask questions and interact with other users whilst learning more about the first days of being a mother.
