An easy day trip from Nice and just under 20 km from Antibes, this quaint village boasts of stunning views of the Côte d’Azur and the mountains of Provence. As you trudge along the cobbled streets of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the dramatic ramparts and fortified walls encircling the town are unmissable. With history beckoning at literally every corner, the ideal way to explore this historic village is taking a stroll along old town.
From canons embedded in stone walls to ancient fountains and arched passages, a walk along the old town is literally taking a step back in time.
Rue Grande is the main street in the old town and is chock-a-block with art galleries, boutiques, cafes and craft stores. It is key to note that artists started flocking the town as early as the 1920s with some of the most prominent names being Paul Signac, Pablo Picasso and of course Marc Chagall. The latter lived here from 1966 to 1985 and was buried here in the cemetery of Saint-Paul de Vence, overlooking the Mediterranean sea.

One of the most interesting aspects are pebbles laid out in interesting patterns and lovely designs on the cobbled streets which forms for a beautiful visual spectacle.
Further, do not miss the grandiose fountain in the center of the old town which dates back to 1850 AD. This was the former market square where most residents came to collect water. The village had seven fountains and three washhouses where locals gathered at all times during the yesteryears.
It is a great place to pick up souvenirs like art prints, ceramics, magnets and other artefacts.
