Possible White-faced x Glossy Ibis Hybrid

By Timschreckengost @timshrek

Yesterday afternoon I checked the Lake Havasu City WTP for shorebirds. As I was scanning through the birds, I noticed eight ibis coming in. At first glance, I thought they were all White-faced Ibis, but noticed one that looked unusual. I do not have much experience with Glossy Ibis, but after looking through reviewing photos I took, it appeared Glossyish. After surveys this morning, Emily Sinnott and I went back to the WTP to search for the potential Glossy Ibis. The ibis was present with only one White-faced Ibis, but allowed for better looks and photos than yesterday. After studying the photos and tossing ideas back and forth with Lauren Harter, we decided the bird could be an adult White-faced x Glossy Ibis hybrid. Here is a photo of the potential hybrid and a comparison shot with a White-faced Ibis. Leave any feedback in the comments.
