If you're looking at this season's fashion trends and feel it is all too dark, autumnal, or brown, do not worry. This is not a year where you need to wear THE color to look fashionable. And this is also a year where a pop of a beautiful color can elevate a look and also make it feel very contemporary.

Pops of colors do not have to be small, and it doesn't have to be just a single item. Pops can be an entire dress, a coat, a suit. The key is to pair them with autumnal shades to feel modern. Instead of black, try brown or cognac or oxblood. In place of gray, try olive or camel or burgundy.

Pops of Color for Fall/Winter 2024

The key to the colors this year is to keep them clear. No faded or muddy shades; even olive and burgundy are rich and deep in color. Below I share the colors I think make for the best pops of color for Fall/Winter 2024:

Pops of Purple

From violet to deep plum, you will see many shades of purple accenting the season's hottest colors. Cool or warm, more pink or more blue, shades of purple look great with olive, dark green, gray, camel, mustard, navy, burgundy, chocolate, teal, and leopard prints. Use it to "winterize" bright reds and pinks, as well as this spring's brighter and lighter purples and last fall's ultraviolet and fuschia.

Gorgeous Green

Green is a big color this fall and winter, from olive to emerald, teal to evergreen. It is also a fantastic accent color, brightening neutrals and adding interest to other shades of green. Green is trendy every few years but is a classic color; if you like it this is the season to stock up!

Bits of Blue

Blue is a color that really elevates a lot of other colors. While you will primarily see navy this season, there will be bits of French blue, cobalt, cadet, and marine blue. Use them to tie together denim on denim looks, to brighten black and gray, and be an unusual yet chic pairing with greens, dark reds and berries, as well as purples.

Rocking the Red

Burgundy is a big color this fall, but pops of red are still red hot chic. There is a trend to accessorize your bags with charms and chains and red is a great option (cherries are big this season thanks to Coach's fancy charm). Red looks great with burgundy and dark shades of red, as well with olive, chocolate, camel, and cognac. Instead of making it a clear pop against black and white, use it with autumnal colors for a modern effect.

What Other Accent Colors Are Stylish for Fall/Winter 2024?

There are no longer any hard-and-fast style rules. If you are someone who loves Kelly green or neon pink or bright turquoise or mauve, then rock it. It is more stylish to wear what you already own that makes you feel comfort and joy than to hope on a trend train.

This is a guide, not gospel, of items I feel would really go beautifully with this fall's fashion trends and colors. I stuck to ones that are likely in your closet and possibly bought in the past five years to show that your current closet can go quite far. And if you are looking to update your closet with pops of color this fall, I think these colors will look great now and for seasons to come.
