Popping the Question? Do These Things First

You've found that special someone; the one you want to spend your whole life with. Now, it's time to pop the question and (hopefully) make it official. Before you get ahead of yourself and rush to get down on bended knee, take a look at the following things you should do before you make a marriage proposal:

Traditionally, a man would ask his sweetheart's father for her hand in marriage, and although this is a bit old school, and no longer necessary in most cases, it is still a nice gesture to speak to the parents and let them know how serious you are and how much you love your other half.

If you want your proposal to be spectacular, you will want to ensure that you have enough money saved up to buy a nice ring that your other half will love, and that you have enough cash to pop the question in an impressive way.

In times gone by, it was said that you should save up a few months' of salary to buy an engagement ring, but this is not so necessary anymore. Be generous and pick the perfect ring, but don't spend what you can't afford. After all, you will soon have a whole wedding to pay for!

If you want your proposal to be perfect, you will want to ensure that your bride-to-be's engagement ring fits. You could take a look at her to her rings for an estimate of her , ask her family if they know, or if you're confident you won't get caught, borrow one of her rings and take it to the jewelers with you.

Will she want a traditional diamond or would unique engagement rings be more her thing? Take the time to observe her style and maybe ask her girlfriends' opinions to ensure you pick the right ring for your love.

If you haven't exactly bought much jewelry in the past, it may be a good idea to ask friends and family who have already popped the question for their jewelry store recommendations. That way, you will be less likely to choose a dodgy dealer and buy a disappointing ring!

Once, you've got the ring sorted; you will need to concentrate your efforts on finding the perfect place to pop the question. The first thing you will want to consider is whether your girl is a private person or one who enjoys the limelight. If she's private, you will want to find a suitably secluded, yet romantic place to get down on one knee, whereas, if she's happy to be in the spotlight, you can safely ask her in a public place, or with the family there to witness the momentous occasion.

If you follow the above tips, you will have everything under control, and you'll be able to avoid any proposal fails , so try not to worry and do your best to relax. This is the most important thing you can do if you want your proposal to be a success.
