Smoke from a burning pile of straw in a nearby paddy field is believed to have contributed to the head-on collision between two Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses in Weerawila that killed four people and injured around 40 others.
The accident occurred near Thuru Sevana in the Tissamaharama–Weerawila area when thick smoke spread across the road, reducing visibility for both drivers.
A motorcyclist who was traveling behind one of the buses said the road had been heavily obscured by smoke at the time, adding that the drivers may not have been able to see clearly. He attributed the collision to smoke from the burning pile of straw. (NewsWire)
