Poll Predictions Of A Close Election Should Cause A Large Voter Turnout

In some elections, the polls show one candidate far ahead of the other. That tends to depress the voter turnout. Those supporting the leading candidate think their candidate doesn't need their vote, and those supporting the candidate far behind think their candidate can't win. Many in both groups stay at home on Election Day and don't vote.

That is not the case in this election. All the polls are predicting a very close election, and most have their results within the poll's margin of error. That has voters thinking that either candidate could win - the one they support or the one they oppose. That is likely to cause a huge turnout of voters.

I believe that will help the Democrats - both in the presidential race and down ballot.

The MAGA voters were going to turn out regardless. They love their candidate. But they are not a majority. A large turnout usually helps Democrats. And with a majority of voters having a negative view of Trump - and many scared of what he would do if elected - I believe that will again be the case.

I believe Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will win - and so will a lot of down ballot Democrats. And if they do, we can thank the polls predicting a close election
