Police have started an investigation on the issues raised regarding whether the testimony of a 17-year-old novice monk from Hindagala Rajamaha Viharaya, who was allegedly threatened with a knife to his neck and forced to drink poison by a stranger, is true.
The Police have serious doubts whether the novice monk is telling the truth or whether he invented it to get someone’s attention.
As the novice monk’s condition is not serious, the doctors have taken steps to refer him to a general ward. Police say that so far no evidence has been found that can confirm that a stranger came to the temple premises and had forced the monk to consume poison.
Police say other than the novice monk’s statement, no one else has seen a stranger in the temple premises.Police are conducting further investigations.
