Apart from the appointment of the Inspector General of Police and matters related to the Inspector General of Police, the power to maintain all the functions of the police, such as the appointment and transfer of police officers and the matters related to maintaining the discipline of the police, has been assigned to the National Police Commission (NPC) until the new Commission is appointed according to the 21st Constitution.
National Police Commission Secretary Tamara D. Perera when inquired said that the Attorney General has given instructions in this regard.
The National Police Commission has now taken steps to inform even the Police Headquarters in this regard.
