Pokemon Go’s raid is a boss battle with specific mechanics that appear periodically at each of the gyms. What exactly is a Mega Raid?

Thankfully, this is an easy one to answer. Sometimes, people might want to know the answer upfront before they get into boss battles that they’re not sure they can handle.

What is a Mega Raid in Pokemon Go?

Mega raids are a type of raid boss in Pokemon Go, occurring rarely at Gyms and can be joined by approaching the gym in the same way. These bosses are some of the more difficult non-player fights available in Pokémon Go.

If you are wondering how to find Pokémon Go Mega raids, the good news is they are easy to spot before they start. Look for a special egg that appears when one of the Pokemon in your Gym levels up.

There is also a noticeable symbol above the egg used for Mega raids in Pokemon Go. When hatched, these eggs will spawn an evolved Pokemon, such as Mega-Venusaur and Mega-Charizard. These Raid Bosses will then be the boss of the Raids.

You can use Pokemon Go’s friends feature to get some support in Mega Raids if your team looks a little weak. In order for you to do so, the other players need to be signed up on the app themselves.

If you’re looking for people to help in your Pokemon Go raids, sometimes it’s helpful to know who’s nearby. But keep in mind that inviters have the only access and remote raiders have no access – as long as you have a raid pass for either remote or invite raids, anyway.

Be sure not to be in over your head if you plan on being a Pokemon Trainer when the game releases. Some battles can be difficult and last a very long time.

Are Mega Raids and Mega Pokemon important at all?

In all honesty, Mega Raids aren’t terribly important. They’re used primarily for gathering Mega Energy for Pokemon to Mega Evolve them and are far from integral to the game alone.

With these two changes in how a mega evolution works, many players are going to be turned off from using them. They only last for a short time, and the benefits aren’t as substantial as they used to be because the levels increase but the form doesn’t.

Traveling to raid bosses also causes more work than it is actually worth to many players because they’d have to leave the character on whom they earned those bonuses.

For completing a Mega raid, you will receive a selection of items proportionate to the difficulty. For example, if it’s difficult enough to capture a pre mega evolve Pokemon like Venusaur, chances are you may get golden rares berries and rare candies while also obtaining experience.

As you would expect, even the odds are stacked against you with the raid difficulty, being rewarded with just a max evolved starter Pokemon or other items is… underwhelming?

Even if your team could deal a lot of damage, there’s no guarantee this is enough to ensure the success of catching all the Pokemon. The number of balls mechanic from typical raids applies here – it’s possible to not get enough and miss out on catching one.

Even if you miss out on a Pokemon for beating Mega Kangaskhan, you’re not going to feel as frustrated if the Pokemon is common.

Is there anything else to know about Mega Raids and Mega Energy in Pokemon Go?

Mega Raids are a difficult type of raid that might be harder to win than Legendary raids. You’ll want to use Type-Advantage as much as possible, because Mega raids can be really difficult to win.
