Poco M4 Pro in to Review

Posted on the 01 March 2022 by Geetikamalik

Last year we thought we got a 4G and 5G version of Poco M3 Pro, but only 5G models arrived. This year we got a 4G version, even though it arrived the month after the 5G was launched.

But Poco M4 Pro is more than choosing certain network generations. For example, this is the first in the M series to use the AMOLED display, all previous models use LCD. In fact, only Poco F phones have been amoled to this day. This change is equipped with a higher brightness than the managed LCD (typical 700 nits vs 450 nits, 1,000 nits). Note that while the speed of refresh is at 90 Hz, the touch sampling rate returns to 180 Hz (is 240 Hz on the 5G model).

It was not the end of it, 4G M4 Pro had a diagonal display that was smaller than 6.43 “rather than M4 Pro 5G (6.6”) and M3 Pro 5G (6.5 “long). Being almost 2 mm narrower and 0.8 MM thinner makes this phone easier to handle. In terms of protection, the phone has Gorilla Glass 3 on the front and IP53 ranking for the dust and spark resistance.

Smaller sizes do not come at the expense of batteries, still have a capacity of 5,000 mAh and 33W fast charging. Official data claims that 100% full can be achieved in just an hour and it is something we will test in our reviews. The 5G version (the same capacity, the same charger) is a few minutes later than the official target.

This phone is equipped with a 33W charger which is bundled in the retail package (we also find a USB-C cable, plus a transparent casing). Despite being an affordable phone – starting from € 220 MSRP, down to € 180 with discounts – M4 Pro aims to please fans in other ways too. This means you get expanded storage (microSD slot), 3.5 mm headphone jack (with hi-res audio), multiple speakers, IR Blaster and NFC.

As you might guess, changing from 5G to 4G also means changing the chipset. Dimensity 810 5G gave the way to Helio G96. Besides the modem, two chips use the same hardware (A76 CPU Core, Mali G57 MC2 GPU). From previous experiences with G96, we hope that the 4G model will offer a performance that is approximately the same. However, the dimensity uses a newer node (6 Nm vs. 12 Nm), so it reaches an impressive 123 hour endurance ranking which is the same as the 5G model may be a high order.

We have to note that when the phone is equipped with MIUI 13 outside the box, it is an Android-based version 11 (same as 5G model).

The chipset also has an impact on video recording. Not much, other M-Series phones cannot record 4K videos, but M4 Pro 5G does offer 1080p @ 60 fps. With 4G that you only get 30 fps.

Compared to Poco M3 Pro 5G from about a year ago, you get a major sensor higher resolution (64 MP vs 48 MP) and the addition of an 8 MP ultra wide camera (118 °). In addition, the selfie camera has doubled the resolution, 16 MP vs 8 MP.

While we are on the topic of the camera, the M4 Pro (4G) is a cellphone that is almost the same as Redmi Note 11, which is already available in Europe. It starts at € 250 and it is half storage (64 GB), however, 11s has a main camera 108 MP (1 / 1.56 “). If you want the same memory configuration (6/128 GB) as M4, the price rises Up to € 280. Also, 11 do not have an 8/256 GB option. Depends on how much you care about the camera, you can save a lot of money (especially if you caught the initial bird offer).
