Wynkin De Worde on Stationers' Hall in the City…
Wynkyn de Worde, born in Holland or Alsase, was the pupil of William Caxton, the first English printer. Upon Caxton’s death in 1491, de Worde inherited Caxton’s printing press, which he relocated to the area of Blackfriars around 1500 – making him the founding father of old Fleet Street, the former home of Britain’s newspapers. He died around 1535.
