Where would one expect to find a plaque for The Man Who Fell To Earth? That most otherworldly of rock stars, David Bowie, whose surprise comeback singles and eagerly awaited new album have set the critics all a-flutter like it was 1973 once more, is commemorated in… Beckenham.
Beckenham?
Bowie, born in Brixton plain ol’ David Jones, was raised in Bromley, lived in Beckenham at Haddon Hall and launched his now famous Arts Lab in the prosaic surroundings of the mock Tudor pub the Three Tuns (now a branch of the Zizzi restaurant chain). (NB this plaque was placed before David Bowie's death earlier this year.)
With the launch of The Rolling Stones Walk on the 5th May 2016 and the return of the Rock'n'Roll London Pub walk on Wednesday nights from the 4th May 2016 the London Walks summer programme 2016 will feature no less than FIVE regular musical-themed walking tours.
