BBC Radio Four commands a passionate and loyal British following. From the long-running soap The Archers to the calming incantation of the Shipping Report, every devotee has a beloved programme that they will endeavour never to miss.
Here at the The D.C, our addiction is to I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue, the comedy show described as “the antidote to panel games”. Four comedians, most often including Barry Cryer, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor, improvise new words to old songs, extemporise new versions of literary classic and generally foist their hilariously jaded view of the world upon the listening public.
Comedian Jack Dee tries to marshal the proceedings as best he can in a role he inherited from the late Humphrey Lyttleton. Humph, as he was affectionately known, passed away in 2008.
Another of the old team no longer with is Willie Rushton, writer, wit and cartoonist…
Plaque of the Week No.115
… his plaque can be found at Mornington Crescent tube station, in commemoration of both Rushton and the regular I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue game “Mornington Crescent” – an infuriatingly hilarious and utterly nonsensical parody of game shows.
