Plague Ship is a Midnight Ink publication. The release date is set for October 2013. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley for an honest review.
Dr. David Ballineau, and girlfriend Carolyn and his daughter, Kit, are on vacation. They are enjoying themselves on a luxury cruise ship until Kit's friend, Will, begins to exhibit signs of a hard hitting flu. When other passengers become ill as well, David discovers the ship and the medical staff is hardly prepared for this type of situation. When David discovers that Will had found a sick and injured bird on board, he knows they are in real trouble. The passengers have all been exposed to Avian Bird Flu.
When the situation becomes obvious, the passengers begin to panic. They want to get off the ship as soon as possible, but the CDC will not allow it. To do so would expose the world to an pandemic. When the passengers discover this, some of them become mutinous. To make matters worse a hurricane is brewing, and Kit has begun to show symptoms of the flu.
Can David and Carolyn handle a ship full of violently ill patients, a mutiny, a hurricane and a very sick daughter. Will they find a way to treat the flu so they can all disembark from the ship and get help?
Plague ship is a taut medical suspense thriller. These types of books may seem like the figment of an author's imagination, but the truth is , this really could happen. That makes this scenario even more frightening. Human nature being what it is, it wouldn't be too far fetched to imagine some people thinking only of their own survival and giving no thought whatsoever to the danger they would be putting millions of lives in. People either form together to find a solution or they break off into groups and become dangerous.
David and Carolyn are smart and quick on their feet as they race against the clock to help as many people as possible and hope against all hope they can save Kit.
This was an edge of your seat thriller. The story moved at break neck speed, rarely giving you time to catch your breath before another situation arose.
I promise you will have sweaty palms and a racing heart by the time you get to the end of the book.
This one is a good solid A.
