The Bell County Museum’s goal is to keep the history of Bell County alive and show it to the public so they can learn and enjoy it. Over 12,000 historic and prehistoric items from Central Texas are in the museum’s large collection. In the Passport through Time exhibits, visitors can see the inside of a settler’s log cabin or learn about the history of Bell County. The museum also has the C.W. Buckellew Collection of miniature buildings and the Galt Site, which is all about the people who lived in the Americas long ago. Belton Lake
Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA) is where families can have fun outside all year long! BLORA is on 89 acres and is right next to beautiful Belton Lake. In the summer, you can swim at Sierra Beach. The beach has two water slides that are 300 feet long, a splash area for kids, picnic areas, and playground equipment. Boat rentals are available at Belton Lake Marina. The recreation area also has a mountain biking trail, paintball facilities, basketball and volleyball courts, fishing, horseback riding, cottage rentals, and camping facilities.
Carl Levin Park
Harker Heights has a 35-acre park and recreation area called Carl Levin Park. The park has a playground, a basketball court, a fishing pond, grills and picnic tables, a paved and lit three-quarter mile path for walking and running, and a lot of open space for playing outside. There are also pavilions in the park of different sizes that can be rented out for gatherings, concerts, parties, and other events. Up to 200 people can sit in the biggest pavilion. Mayborn Science Theater
At the Mayborn Science Theater, you can see everything in the universe! This huge 180-seat theater has a 60-foot domed screen where movies are shown. This gives the audience a full-immersion experience. Films and laser shows show things like outer space, dinosaurs, the oceans, and old inventions, among other things. After the movie, people can check out the theater’s exhibit room, hurricane simulator, and retro gaming room. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, Friday evenings, and all day Saturdays are open to the public. There are also birthday parties, school field trips, and scout groups that go to the theater. Pfeifer’s German Bakery
Since 2002, Pfeifer’s German Bakery has been serving the Killeen area with authentic, hand-made German treats. The owner has been a master baker for more than 25 years in both Germany and the United States.
