October 2022

Airshow performer Brad Wursten taxies out in his MX2 followed by Jon Melby with his Pitts S-1-11B at the 2022 California International Airshow Salinas. Brad’s new custom MX2 is an upgrade from his previous Extra 330LX. This all-carbon fiber aircraft has a top speed of over 300 MPH, a roll rate at 420 degrees/sec, and is rated for “G” loads of +/- 15 “G’s”. Jon’s aircraft is one of the few factory-built S-1-11b’s in the world, rated for +8.5/-5 G’s with a roll rate of 360 deg/sec. First flown in 1944, the iconic Pitts biplanes dominated world aerobatic competition in the 1960s and 1970s. The S-1S is still in production by Aviat Aircraft.
