Piper PA-18 Super Cub

@ Fairbanks, Alaska

September 2017

On a 2017 trip to Fairbanks, we went on a riverboat cruise on the Chena River which brought us to a Chena Indian Village.  While exploring the village I stumbled upon this skeletal Piper sitting along a lakeshore.  Hard to tell exactly what type of Cub it might have been. A curiosity of the J-3 is that when it is flown solo, the pilot normally occupies the rear seat for proper CG, to balance the fuel tank located at the firewall.  First flown in 1938, close to 20,000 of the original J-3 Cubs were produced.
