Pinterest Tests Online Events with Dedicated ‘class Communities’ – ProWellTech

Pinterest is participating in online events. The company was spotted testing a new feature that allows users to sign up for Zoom courses via Pinterest, while creators use Pinterest boards to organize class materials, notes and other resources, or even connect with attendees via an option. group chat. The company has confirmed that the online lesson test is an experiment in development, but does not offer further details on its plans.

The functionality itself was discovered on Tuesday by the reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who found details about the online lessons by examining the app code.

Currently, you can directly visit some of these "demo" profiles, for example "@pinsmeditation" or "@ pinzoom123", and view the listed class communities. However, these communities are empty when you click. That's because the feature is still unheard of, says Wong.

When and if the feature is subsequently launched to the public, communities will include dedicated sections where creators will be able to organize their class materials, such as lists of what to bring to class, notes, photos and more. They could also use these communities to offer a class overview and description, connect users to a related store, group chat functionality, and more.

Creators can also use communities - which are basically enhanced Pinterest boards - to answer attendee questions, share class photos, and otherwise interact with attendees.

When a user wishes to join a class, they can click a "book" button to register and receive an email confirmation with the meeting details. Other buttons invite attendees to download Zoom or copy the link to join the class.

Unsurprisingly, Pinterest will expand into the online event space, as its platform has become a popular tool for organizing remote learning resources during the coronavirus pandemic. Teachers turned to Pinterest to track lesson plans, get inspiration, share educational activities, and more. In the early days of the pandemic, Pinterest reported record usage when the company saw more searches and saves globally in a single weekend in March than ever before in its history, thanks to its usefulness as an online organizational tool.

This growth continued throughout the year. In October, Pinterest shares posted strong gains after the company beat revenue and user growth metrics. The company generated revenue of $ 443 million, up from $ 383.5 million, and brought its monthly active users to $ 442 million, up from $ 436.4 million. Outside of the coronavirus impacts, much of this growth has been due to strong international adoption, increased ad spend by advertisers boycotting Facebook, and increased interest from users looking for ideas to customizing the iOS 14 home screen.

As the United States failed to keep the COVID-19 pandemic under control, many classes, events and other activities will remain virtual even in 2021. The online events market could continue to grow in the following years, thanks to the kickstart. the pandemic provided the sector as a whole.

"We are experimenting with ways to help creators interact more closely with their audiences," a spokesperson for Pinterest said, when asked for more information.

Pinterest didn't confirm further details about its plans for online events, but said the feature was in development and testing would help inform product management.

Pinterest often tries out new features before rolling them out to a wider audience. Earlier this summer, ProWellTech reported on a Story Pins feature the company had in the works. Pinterest then launched the feature in September. If the same time frame holds up for online events, we could potentially see the feature become more widely available early next year.
