[part of] the Israeli delegation to Uganda, commemorating the raid on Entebbe, davening mincha at the airfield... and as Elli Fischer writes,
"There are many impressive things about this photo. It was taken in Entebbe, where an Israeli delegation is marking the 40th anniversary of the famous and daring raid, Operation Jonathan (named for Yoni Netanyahu, who was killed during the operation).
Here, part of the Israeli delegation davens mincha. That's an impressive testament to the commitment of religious communities to service in the IDF and in government.
But I'm most impressed by the woman who has joined the group. From my experience, it is rare for women to join the impromptu minyanim that spring up at celebrations and conferences and the like (including a conference I attended on women's empowerment within Orthodoxy, which I posted about at the time). But this woman stands for the recitation of Kedusha, alone (at impromptu minyanim, there is no requirement for a mehitza, but the sexes still must be physically apart), dressed in a manner that would be frowned upon in most such prayer quora.
She stands in front of a C130 Hercules, named for the ancient Greek symbol of strength and courage, demonstrating that we, the Jewish people have other models of strength and courage.
לא בחיל ולא בכח כי אם ברוחי אמר ה' צבקות.
