Yara asked Hillary about her role model Marian Wright Edelman as well how she felt following last year’s infamous debate in which then-candidate Trump loomed behind her. “I thought I have to be really calm here,” she remembered. “He stalked and he loomed over me and made faces. Everything if you watched you saw in real time. But I maintained my composure. Afterward, I thought about that, ‘What would have happened if I had spun around and said, ‘You love to intimidate women, but back up you creep!’” The crowd cheered. “It would have been really satisfying.”

Rep. Maxine Waters spoke about the political issues facing our nation.  I think this is the kind of discussion we’re going to have to have for some time to come, Donald Trump does not deserve to be President of the United States of America. I am totally offended by him. And I want other people to get in touch with themselves and how they feel about him. This man is deplorable and he’s dangerous. You cannot depend on anything he says.”

A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay also spoke during the Summit, along with movie actresses, Rowan Blanchard and Storm Reid.  The ladies discussed representation in Hollywood.

DuVernay on adding the ‘Veronica’ character, played by Rowan Blanchard, to the A Wrinkle in Time movie: “There was no character that really allowed Meg to deal with issues of friendship with a girl. Her good friends who she travels along on the journey with are two boys. So it was important to insert that story in there, and I think that’s one of the things why it’s imperative that women and girls reclaim the narrative and start to become storytellers and to tell the stories.
