Legendary actress, Alfre Woodard hosted her annual pre-Oscars “Sistahs Soiree” last night in L.A. The event celebrates African American and Latina women who have been nominated in the Oscars acting categories.
Viola Davis, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences (who could ever forget that snot scene) was seen taking a pic with her Help co-star, and Oscar nominee Octavia Spencer, who’s nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Hidden Figures. The ladies are joined in the pic by Ruth Negga, who played Mildred Loving in the beautiful movie, Loving.
Viola Davis poses it up with Golden Globe winner, Tracee Ellis Ross.
Rosario Dawson and Rashida Jones pose for the cameras.
The visionary behind the event, Ms. Alfre Woodard looks gorgeous in navy blue. Woodard recently shared her inspiration behind the event.
“I wanted to gather all the women of color, different colors…who have ever been nominated in the acting category and those that I say in a perfect world ‘should have been’ [like C.C.H. Pounder and S. Epatha Merkerson]…if there’s a 100 roles that are being cast that season, I will give Cate [Blanchett] and Helen [Mirren] the Queen of England, but we should have been in contention for the other 98. All of these women have a track record, they’ve done box office, all that.”
