Pickle Gose Showdown! St. Nickel’s Spicy Pickle Vs. Puro Pickles

By Boozedancing @boozedancing

On today's episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table, we're having a good old-fashioned showdown! But instead of gunslingers squaring off in a duel to the death at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, AZ, we're talking Pickle Goses. Two of them to be exact.

One come's from the Pride of Pennsauken, NJ, aka Double Nickel Brewing Company, and goes by the name St. Nickel's Spicy Pickel.

The other, which goes by the name Puro Pickles, comes from Freetail Brewing of San Antonio, Texas.

Here's a bit of information about both:

St. Nickel's Spicy Pickle: Time again for our Double Nickel Saint Nickel's Pickle tradition.... but this year we're also spicing things up! 🌶️🌶️⁣⁣

Saint Nickel's Pickle - a pickle-inspired gose is back, along with a HOT spicy pickle variant.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For some of you this quirky tradition may be familiar but for others who don't know about it we wanted to share with you a tradition that many of us grew up with. Hiding a pickle ornament in the family Christmas tree with the finder receiving an extra gift is a strange but fun game that brings the family together. Saint Nickel's Pickle is our tribute to those moments with a DN twist. ⁣⁣⁣

Puro Pickles: Freetail Brewing Co., San Antonio's favorite brewery and taproom, has teamed up with Pickle Juice, the world's first and only scientifically proven, anti-cramping solution, to create an original kettle-soured pickle beer, available for locals beginning this month. Infused with Freetail's fan-favorite brewing processes and the power of the pickle flavor, the result is a salty, pickle brew."At first glance, pickles and beer might sound like an unlikely union, but beer lovers everywhere are gravitating towards the combination as they realize the salty pickle profile cuts the bitterness that can be present in beer. It's actually a winning combination," said Filip Keuppens, VP of Global Sales and Marketing, Pickle Juice. "A partnership with Freetail, a Texas native brand like us, felt like a natural fit to bring this product to market. We foresee there will be a lot of local excitement around the product, with potential for further growth."Brewed locally at their San Antonio brewhouse, the kettle soured pickle gose beer features the vinegar profile from Pickle Juice for a light, lemon sour taste with a strong salty presence. The beer will be sold on tap and in cans with a pickle-inspired label reading Puro Pickles, and available throughout Texas and in HEB stores statewide.⁣⁣⁣

We're not gonna lie. When we first heard of this Pickle Gose phenomenon, our first thoughts were "YUCK!". But then we had a sip of two at Double Nickel and became intrigued by the style. To find out which of these two Pickle Goses is best, click the play button on the following video.
