Playing the role of an alpha werewolf may seem like a daunting task to most men, but True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello is not most men. At 6’5″ Joe certainly fit the height requirement for the role, but it is his incredible physique that really sells it. Manganiello is on the cover of June’s Men’s Health UK magazine and in the article he talks about working with Arnold Schwarzenegger, his fitness goals and how he’s only getting better with age. We definitely agree!
First up, Manganiello discusses the fact that he isn’t getting any younger. We all know that as you get older staying in shape becomes a bigger challenge but Joe seems to be moving in the opposite direction.
“I’m not 18 anymore. But you won’t hear me saying that, because me at 36 would destroy me as a teenager. In my mid-30s I’m making bigger gains than I’ve ever made in my life.”
Recently Manganiello had a role in the Arnold Swarzenegger film “Ten” and the two filmed together for four months. Filming with his fitness idol was an accomplishment for Joe and he got some good advice from Arnold on how to make his muscles pop on camera:
“We had a photo shoot for the movie poster. I was wearing a sleeveless top, crossing my arms and flexing. Arnold came in and said ‘I see you’re flexing your biceps. Don’t do that. Keep it loose and [with crossed arms] put the other hand back to push [the muscle forward] – you’ll get an extra three inches.”
Becoming obsessed with muscles is not part of Manganiello’s plan. He tells the magazine that his focus is on becoming “stronger, fitter and faster”. We must say – you are doing quite the job of that Joe!
