Photographer of the Week: Asim Butt I Found the Picture Above...

Photo Post Photographer of the week: Asim Butt
I found the picture above looking through the Facebook profile of my friend Zee, who has been the subject of many beautiful portraits. Her wedding album might be my favorite thing to look at on the Internet.
When I asked her if I could post the photograph, she wrote:
“Things to know about this picture: It was shot by a very dear friend, Asim Butt, an artist and an activist, who was one of the most incredible people I ever knew. He was painting a private mural commission at the time and he’d shot a bunch of these as reference shots. He was schizophrenic, managed it quite well with medication, but had his bad days. He committed suicide when I was still at Columbia, which was a huge, huge blow to any one of us who ever knew him.”
She wrote a beautiful posthumous portrait of him on the occasion of his retrospective in Karachi for The Herald, Pakistan’s most well-read monthly magazine. I’m trying to get her to post it on her blog. Stay tuned.
