Located in Mandya district, Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls are a famous tourist attraction in the state of Karnataka. Also called Shivanasamudra falls, this one is formed on the river Kaveri as it spilts into the western and eastern branches. The western branch is the twin waterfalls of Gaganachukki while the eastern branch forms the Bharachukki falls. Also called Bluff, it houses one of Asia’s oldest hydro-electric power stations. These segmented falls are perennial though the best time to view them in all their glory is during the monsoons; say July-September. Here are some pics of a recent trip I undertook.
The picturesque road via Malavalli leading to the fallsThe drive to Gaganachukki is about 3 hours and the distance is just under 125 km. The roads are in excellent condition too and hence one can reach earlier too,

Sun kissed foliageAt a distance of about 12 km from Gaganachukki, lies the spectacular Bharachukki falls which again forms for a wonderful sight if you are a nature lover.
