Photoessay: Handmade Pottery in Pondicherry

By Rashmi Gopal Rao

As mentioned in my earlier posts, Pondicherry aka Puducherry is a city that never fails to surprise.  You are bound to discover something new each time you visit this South Indian union terrirtory.  However, one agenda that remains top priority each time I visit, is pottery shopping.  If you are a lover of finely glazed handmade pottery and ceramics, Pondy is the place to head to.  Whether it is mugs, vases, planters, candle stands or even cookware, this place has it all.   On my last visit, I drove into the interiors of Auroville and was thrilled to bits with all my spoils! Here are some pics.

A laborious process indeed, these ceramics are the handiwork of extremely talented artisans who work tirelessly to create these masterpieces.
