Manchester-based singer-songwriter Phoebe Green has shared the video for ‘Golden Girl’ ahead of the release of new EP ‘I Can’t Cry for You’ on 3 December via Chess Club Records (preorder HERE). The song has already receives support from DJs including Annie Mac, Jack Saunders and Phil Taggart.
Phobe says the song is about the futility of chasing perfection: ‘‘Golden Girl’ is about realising that being alone can be absolutely crucial when it comes to self growth. It’s about accepting the fact that total perfection is completely unattainable, so desperately trying to meet that standard in every aspect of my life – especially my relationships – will never not leave me feeling like I’ve failed.’
Full of toe-tapping pop hooks and synth-driven melodies, there’s an honesty in the words that you can’t help but admire – ‘I just don’t have the energy to reassure you that I still adore you when we both know it isn’t the same’; ‘And I wish you, wouldn’t get so blue. I’m never gonna be a golden girl. And that’s not on you, it’s just not in view.’
