Philando Castile’s Girlfriend To Receive $800K Settlement
Philando Castile’s girlfriend, who filmed him just moments after Castile was fatally shot by a police officer, will receive $800,000 in settlements.
Reynolds, who was in the car with the late Philando and her four-year-old daughter at the time of the shooting, is set to receive $675,000 from the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota, along with an additional $125,000 from the city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust.
Though Reynolds and her daughter were not physically harmed, they claimed emotional distress and false arrest in connection the shooting. According to a press release issued by St. Anthony, a portion of the funds will be placed into a trust for her daughter’s education.
Mayor of St. Anthony Jerry Faust said, “This settlement resolves all civil litigation stemming from the incidents on July 6, 2016, and opens the door to continued healing within our community.”
