Yesterday, on 3rd June, 2015, yet another Chinese smartphone maker entered India. Phicomm stepped into the Indian market with the launch of their flagship smartphone Passion 660. The catalog distributed at the launch event suggests that more devices from the Phicomm brand are soon to follow.
Anyway, Passion 660 is a big screen- 4G LTE smartphone with features like inbuilt pedometer and gesture recognition technology.
Passion 660 is equipped with 5.0-inch IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution (FHD), a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 615 processor with 4G LTE. 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Internal storage is expandable by using microSD card of upto 64 GB. It has 13 MP primary and 5 MP secondary camera. Passion 660 is powered by 2300mAh non-removable battery.
Commenting at its launch in India, Zheng Min – CEO of PHICOMM said, “PHICOMM Passion 660 is an innovative smartphone which reflects the distinctive needs of the Indian consumers.” He added, “Indian smartphone market is constantly evolving and consumers here are looking for unique smartphones with advanced features and high standards to gain the maximum experience. Our strong in-house research and development team have helped in customizing the smart phone especially for the Indian consumers.’’
The highlights of Passion 660 include a Global 4G Roaming support. It has a slim unibody and is supposed to be the slimmest 4G smartphone available in the region currently. It is a Dual SIM phone and can accept Micro as well as Nano SIM card. The Nano SIM card slot can also be used for a microSD card instead.
Another highlight of the device is its gesture recognition technology. Of course, this is nothing new and we have seen other devices too that allow control of the phone by waving a hand over the screen. But it’s good to see this technology in a phone that costs much less.
However, other than these, I can’t say I found much to interest me in this device. It has good specifications, all necessary features and decent looks. But with the market now flooded with options, Passion 660 might find it hard to make Indian consumers passionate about it.
