The Philippine Educational Theater Association brings back "William," the rap musical that blends in Shakespeare, hip-hop and the struggles of teenage life in one exciting play.
"William" joins theater performances from different parts of the country in the 4th National Theater Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines this November 8 to 18. It will have two shows at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) on November 15, Thursday, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
"William" is about five high school students who develop love for the Bard while preparing monologues for a class project. The play took home six trophies in the recent PHILSTAGE Gawad Buhay Awards, including Outstanding Play, Outstanding Original Script for Ron Capinding, and Outstanding Direction for Maribel Legarda.
Organized by CCP and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, this year's National Theater Festival titled "Ika-Apat na Tagpo, Ang Bagong Yugto: The New Act" focuses on the role of theater in national development.
The participating theater groups also include: Barasoain Kalinangan Foundation from Bulacan; Bohol Antequera and Maribojoc Collectives, Teatro Bolanon; Carlos Celdran; Dulaang UP; Gantimpala Theater Foundation; Integrated Performing Arts Guild from MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology; MSU Kabpapagariya Ensemble from the Mindanao State University in General Santos City; Tanghalang Ateneo; Tanghalang Pilipino; The Xavier Stage from Xavier University; Trumpets; Kanlaon Theater Guild of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod; Sipat Lawin Ensemble; Spit (Silly People's Improv Theater); and the ventriloquists Ony Carcamo and Wanlu.
