Pet Friendly Review: Inn at Keystone, Keystone CO

We visited Keystone, CO while on our 35-day cross-country road trip in July. We were fortunate enough to have a friend recommend the pet-friendly Inn at Keystone. We booked our stay for 2 nights and ended up adding an extra night because we loved it so much. One might think that a ski resort would only be fun when there is snow on the ground, but this is definitely not the case. We had tons of fun, and the resort was a perfect fit for us and our two dogs.

The Inn at Keystone boasts very affordable, pet-friendly lodging in the Colorado Rockies. When we were planning our trip, several people asked us why we were visiting a ski resort in the middle of the summer. We originally chose Keystone to be close to our friends, but ended up learning there is quite a bit to do even without the snow.

Upon checking into the hotel, we were greeted by some of the friendliest staff around. They gave us chocolate chip cookies and a goodie bag that included biscuits for the dogs. We were also informed that every evening there is a social hour which includes a free glass of wine at the bar. Well behaved pets are encouraged to join in on the fun.

Once we got up to our room, we found it very comfortable. It was spacious and had a nice desk to work on, in addition to in room coffee service featuring Starbucks. While the room was nice the real winner was the large picture windows featuring an amazing view. Nothing beats waking up to a rippling stream and birds chirping in the trees, with giant mountains in the background.

The view from our room!

Going out and exploring the resort helped us quickly realize how much there is to do here at any time of the year. Some of the ski lifts are open year-round so that you can still get up to the mountain peaks and hike around. We spent a couple hours up there and the views and trails are incredible.

If you are feeling adventurous you can even take a mountain bike up and ride trails down the whole mountain. We chose to bike our way through the paved portions of the resort and had a wonderful time. We also took advantage of their walking paths and went for a romantic stroll every morning.

Imagine taking a stroll around this every morning

After a long day of hiking and biking, you can relax in the roof top hot tub. The view from up there is nothing short of spectacular. Plus there’s just something cool about sitting in a hot tub while 5-stories up. The hotel also has an onsite restaurant, the Black Bear Grill which offers a wide selection of items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

In addition to playing outdoors, we did some shopping in the village of Keystone. There was a nice mix of shops for every budget and a couple of good bars to grab a beer and relax. We had the opportunity to play on Keystones golf course too but we’re not big golfers so we opted for the included wagon ride through the resort back country.

The combination of great accommodations and activities is enough to make Keystone a vacation spot. What really made this stay a memorable one was the fantastic staff at the Inn at Keystone. They were always there to offer helpful advice, or just give a warm smile. We can’t wait to visit again.
