Do you ever read something (usually in the trashier news sources) and think to yourself "Who the heck does s/he think s/he is?". Me too. There have been quite a few people recently that seriously need to "get over themselves".
Take Justin Bieber for instance. Now, I realize that he may in fact, be wrestling a personal demon or two at the moment, however, as I mentioned in a recent post, pitching up two hours late for an audience full of adoring nine year olds is too much. It's bad enough when they're fully grown adults, but at least you know they'll be getting pissed biding their time at the bar.
I have to be careful however, with my public criticism of the Bieb. It seems he has an army of vicious, passionate Twitter fans, ready to "attack" at any time. As I found out on Saturday morning when one of them unleashed all 90 of her/his own followers on me. I haven't laughed so much in a long time and the poor child (I'm assuming, by the spelling and the grammar that the Tweeter was still in primary/grade school) was eventually suspended by Twitter.
And then we have the seemingly clueless Taylor Swift, who had a serious sense of humo(u)r failure and tried to have a go at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I know. Who goes up against them?
It seems she didn't think it very funny when, hosting the Golden Globes, they warned her to leave Michael J Fox's son alone. (He was escorting people on and off the stage.) Oooh, Taylor wasn't best pleased. Apparently she said (stealing a quote from former Sec. of State Madaline Albright) that "there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women." Yeah, well if you could write lyrics with a bit more depth than "We are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, (breathe) getting back together", we might be able to call you a woman and not a girlie.
Any Poehler replied gracefully - "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff. " Gotta love it.
And finally, for this post anyway, there's Viviene Westwood, fashioner designer (air quotes needed for that title). She recently laid into Michele Obama for her lack of style, saying "I don't want to talk about it. Really I can't." She may have been reclining on a chaise longue, the back of her hand held against her forehead, I can't be sure. Get over yourself woman. At the end of the day, we wear clothes to protect ourselves from the elements and to avoid arrest in public places.
And speaking of getting arrested, isn't this a crime?
