People Making Names, Not Things

By Told By Design @toldbydesign

In this scene Mark Wallace (Albert Finney), an architect, is using a Verascope F40 stereo camera to photograph Notre-Dame de Senlis cathedral.

At the same time, he complains about those who give more importance to their name rather than their creations. Several years later, in architecture and design, this is still happening, and humble masterpieces are harder to find.

Told by Design - Two for the road - Albert Finney - 3d stereo camera - Verascope F40 - Notre-Dame de Senlis cathedral

Mark (Albert Finney) – Nobody knows the names of the men who made it. To make something as exquisite as this without wanting to smash your stupid name all over it…
Joanna (Audrey Hepburn) – Would you want to?
M – All you hear about nowadays is people making names, not things… Sorry, do you want me to take your picture?
J – No.
M – This is really a three-dimensional camera. It’s meant for photographing three-dimensional subjects.
J – I’m three-dimensional, as a matter of fact.
M – It’s basically for buildings.
J – Well, I’m not a building.

Thanks to Fernando Grasa for the Senlis cathedral identification.
