People: Elon Musk ‘ended it’ with Amber Heard because he’s a workaholic
I keep waiting for Amber Heard and Elon Musk’s breakup to get messy, but so far… it’s relatively tame. The Daily Mail initially reported that Elon dumped Amber and she is “devastated.” A source also claimed that Elon only recently discovered that Amber is “very manipulative and selfish.” The next day, Us Weekly reported their own story about the split, but their source (someone likely in Amber’s camp) made it sound like the split was mutual and that it was just a distance/work thing. I kept waiting to see what People Magazine would say – People sort of took Johnny Depp’s side – partially – during their divorce, and I strongly suspect that People Mag is never going to be full-on Team Amber about anything. Finally, on Monday afternoon, People published their confirmation that Elon and Amber were done. People makes it sound like Elon dumped her too.
Amber Heard and Elon Musk have called it quits. The stars’ whirlwind, date-filled romance has come to an end a little more than a year after they were first linked last summer, a source tells PEOPLE.
“They are no longer dating,” says the source. According to the source, Heard and Musk’s increasingly busy schedules contributed to the split.
“They had fun for a few months, but are both very busy with work now. It was getting hard to find time to see each other,” says the source, adding that Musk initiated the split. “Elon’s is working day and night. This is his life and he loves it. He is in no position to be in a relationship right now and ended it.”
The breakup comes as a shock, as the former love birds were recently spotted out, both donning smiles, in Los Angeles in June. One month earlier, Heard and Musk spent some time Down Under while Heard filmed Aquaman. In May, a source told PEOPLE that the stars were “very serious about each other. She spends a lot of time at his house and is very comfortable there. Amber’s also gotten to know his kids and spends time with them as well.”

So we now have two outlets claiming that Elon dumped Amber. It sounds like People spoke to someone in Elon’s camp… although I don’t know why Elon’s publicist would really bother confirming anything to People Magazine. Still, stranger things have happened. I get the feeling that Elon kind of got off on being with someone as famous as Amber, so maybe he does have a publicist who rings up People Mag. As for why he dumped her… it just feels like a major case of Be Careful What You Wish For. He liked chasing her. Once he had her locked down and ready for a proposal, he got bored. He seems like that guy too.
Also: Elon apparently left this comment on one of Amber’s Instagrams: “Btw, just to clear up some of the press storm this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another. Long distance relationship when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who knows what the future holds.”
