  • Google's Android TV-based Chromecast is already available in stores like Home Depot and Walmart.
  • The unannounced $ 50 dongle uses a renamed platform, Google TV.
  • It could be available immediately after the September 30th Google event.

Whether the box is leaking, Google's Chromecast with Android TV already seems to be available in stores, at least if you're ready to look for it. The edge and Reddit users have managed to purchase the "Sabrina" dongle at certain Home Depot and Walmart stores a few days before its expected debut at Google's September 30th event.

The purchases confirm what few secrets remain for the devices. The new Chromecast uses Google TV, a rebranded version of Android TV, and should be affordable for $ 50. The sale even confirmed Sabrina's code name - receipts referring to him as "SABRINA-ABBEY ROCK CANDY". Retailers apparently did not yet have an official name for the products.

Don't expect to buy the device online just yet. The Google device is not displayed in Internet systems and currently only appears to be available in person. In the face of a pandemic, instead of traveling from store to store to track down a unit, you might want to wait.

The updated Chromecast won't be extremely powerful. It should have a humble quad-core chip, 2 GB of RAM, and around 4.4 GB of storage. However, it's powerful enough to play videos in 4K with HDR and a Reddit user confirmed that Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision are working properly. It's still a big upgrade - the Chromecast Ultra launched at a higher price without HDR and was dependent on your phone.

You should learn a lot more about the Android TV-based Chromecast at the Google event. However, if these store findings are any indication, the hardware may be available soon after the presentation.
