Pastor Charles Jenkins announced at the end of 2018 that he was retiring as senior pastor of the historical Fellowship Chicago after 23 years.
Some folks were shocked, but I wasn't. If you know anything about Jenkins then you already knew that God would soon call him to another sphere of influence. That he wasn't a traditional preacher, and he wasn't about to let anyone box him in... He unapologetically uses all of his gifts and talents to infiltrate spheres of influence... from politics to entertainment.
See, Pastor Jenkins was screaming from the pulpit years ago "Black Lives Matter" while we were sleeping. He's been featured on sitcoms and has hung out with some of the world's greatest leaders, and all while staying humble and true to his Christian values.
So, what does the next chapter look like for Jenkins?
"I am going to give the people more music, he shared with Rolling Out. I got a new album that I'm wrapping up as we speak. It's gonna be fun. It's a big sing-along record. I'm a music supervisor in a movie for one of the biggest music houses in Hollywood. So that's in process. I've got three clothing brands ... and I've got some exciting things happening with my brands. One is Positive Air, [another is] the My God is Awesome brand, and another one's called Be The Greatest. Everything I've ever done, when it was time to do it, he gave me clarity, confirmations, signs and symbols or put people around me to help guide me to what I was supposed to be doing. So, I got some irons in the fire, but we're gonna see what I'm cooking."
Friday night, friends and family gathered in Chicago to honor the man who gave us "Awesome" with an Awesome Experience to celebrate his birthday and retirement.
Associate Pastor of Fellowship, Reginald Sharpe and his wife Brianna Sharpe, Warryn and Erica Campbell, and Rickey Smiley were all in attendance. Rapper and DJ, Biz Markie was on the turntables for what looked like a party to remember.
