If you think about it college is kind of like one huge test. To me college means, a new beginning. It’s a win or lose situation, and honestly it’s extremely scary. There are several questions on this test that I expect to find answers to such as: How will I do on my own? Will I be able to keep up with the workload? Will I find my “place” at my University? There are also many unanswered questions that cause me to wonder, how do I prepare myself in a way to ace this test?
As I start this test I feel confident! Finding the right place to begin ones personal college test can be a challenge of its’ own, now that I have accomplished that task I can prepare myself for the rest of the test. College is meant to prepare students for the “real world,” with this in mind, I now view higher education as a necessity to pass the test.
In other words, I believe college plays a vital role in my life. College will test my ability to learn, my ability to prepare, my ability to overcome obstacles, and much more. It’s a test that will reveal who I truly am. At the end of these 4-years I believe I will be prepared to take on the real world with confidence and achieve my goals.
Furthermore, I must remind myself to look at the big picture. I am dreading the times that I have so much work to do I don’t even feel like I have time to sleep. I am dreading the times I work so hard on a certain assignment just to receive a C. I know these times are coming, but I must look beyond these rough times and think, what will I get out of staying on top of my assignments or giving up one night’s sleep to complete an assignment? I will get one heck of a life experience, and that’s something I can truly look forward to gaining and something I can carry with me throughout the rest of my life.
In closing I understand the task I have in front of me. I have been preparing for this test for the past 13 years of my life. Mike Melville once said, “what you want to do, and what you can do, is limited only by what you can dream.” Keeping this quote in mind I am going to dream big, “keep my eye on the prize,” and work as hard as I can over these next three years, by doing so I believe I will pass the test of college.
