An accident occurred when a bus transporting garment workers collided with a lorry parked on the Galle Road in Payagala North on Tuesday (13) night.
The accident took place around 10.30 pm. Five female workers were seriously injured and hospitalized.
There was a technical fault in the lorry and it was parked on the road without the lights on, causing the accident, police said.
At the time of the accident, roofing sheets packed at the back of the lorry crashed into the bus and as a result, garment workers were seriously injured.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested by Payagala Police.
The injured garment workers are currently receiving treatment at the Kalutara Teaching Hospital.
