Paris! Just saying the name conjures up images of love, fashion and fine cuisine. Ooh, la la! To me, however, Paris is more than that. This is the city where my husband Christopher proposed to me. He did it on my birthday at the Versailles Palace, in August 2007. Tres romantique, n’est pas? We arranged for this trip to coincide with our 6th wedding anniversary, which was on May 17th. We celebrated our special day with a marvelous and romantic evening cruise along the Seine. The Eiffel Tower helped make the evening all the more special, with thousands of lights sparkling in the night sky at the top of each hour.
Yesterday, I spent part of the day exploring the city. The weather was picture perfect: sunny with not a rain cloud in sight. The skies were blue and bright.
Below is the Seine River with the view of the Palais de la Decouverte in the background.
The Musee d’Orsay
Frontal facade of the Musee d’Orsay.
The perfect way to see the sites of Paris along the Seine.
One of the many flower beds in the Jardin du Luxembourg.
The lawn and french garden at the entrance to the Louvre.
The Petit Arc de Triomphe at the Louvre.
And, finally, the Louvre with its famous Pyramid entrance by I.M. Pei. There are so many works of art and sculptures to see. I always enjoy revisiting paintings by da Vinci, Botticelli, Caravaggio and Delacroix.
You cannot come to Paris without visiting this historic museum and getting a glimpse of the Mona Lisa.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself playing tourist yesterday. I’m continuing that role today with a visit to the Musee d’Orsay to immerse myself in impressionist paintings.
Have a great Tuesday,
Simone
