Parenting FAIL Friday – Just a Few More Minutes.

By Mediocremom @mediocre_mom

In our neck of the woods, we had a freakishly early snow storm again this year. We also another freak hurricane. The Nerd and I hypothesized that perhaps these are not, in fact, “freak” storms, but the rather the result of eons of atmospheric pollution gradually causing a shift in the weather pattern – commonly known as global warming, which has nothing to do with it actually feeling hotter. Science class is over. For now.

By the next morning the roads were crystal clear. I checked my phone for a school closing alert (which I signed up for) and got nothing. But, just to be sure, I checked the school’s website. Nothing.

We  went through the whole morning ritual and I sent her outside to wait for the bus. Five minutes, nothing.

Call out to Punkin to make sure she’s not cold. She’s fine and doing silly dances for me in the window.

Ten minutes, nothing.

Hop online and Google school closings in our state. Pick first result. Nothing. Okay, bus is just running late again.

Fifteen minutes – nothing.

Now I’m getting annoyed. The bus has screwed up every year. In kindergarten they drove by her stop every day for a week. In first grade they lost her. THEY FREAKING LOST HER. As in she was 45 minutes late coming home and I went crazy calling the school and bus company because nobody could tell me where she was. Turns out they had her listed on two separate bus routes, and didn’t know which one she had gotten on. My history with the bus company is not a positive one.

So the fact that 20 minutes had now gone by was not surprising.

I did what any good mother would do at that point: I posted about it on Facebook.

And then I got a phone call from a friend:

Sweetie, there’s no school today.

Of course there isn’t. Because I only signed up for parent alerts, checked the school’s website, and checked a news station online. Silly me. I should have telepathically known that school was canceled.

There’s a reason I have a FAIL post every week. The universe is against me.

I give up.
