Parenthood: 35th Anniversary- Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest, Rick Moranis

Quick Take: just a few days ago I mentioned the anniversary of Ron Howard’s The Paper. But Parenthood, that has a bit stronger footing in the test of time, due in large part to the NBC drama starring Craig T. Nelson, that created a new generation of fans, and made people look back on the Steve Martin film that started it all. That drama wasn’t the first attempt to turn this into a series, as there was a short lived version in the early 90’s. But, here we have a stellar cast again, Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest, Rick Moranis, Tom Hulce, Jason Robards, Martha Plimpton, Keanu Reeves, and Joaquin Phoenix, among others. Just a killer ensemble, and a film that begs to still be on your rewatch list. Martin starts to push himself more dramatically here, but the show is stolen by Wiest as an exasperated mother, Robards as the patriarch of the clan, and Hulce as the ne’er do well. While not one of my all time favorites, or a desert island film, I estimate this as my 4th or 5th time seeing the film, but first with audio description. I believe MAX still has this with audio description, and if you haven’t seen it yet, it is a strong recommend. It works better the older you get. For more, check out the video.
