According to DPRK state media, State Affairs Commission vice chair and DPRK Premier Pak Pong Ju toured the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex on January 15, 2017 (Sunday). He recently toured the complex back in December. This visit may be a follow up visit to Choe Ryong Hae’s visit back on January 6, 2017. Also in attendance was State Planning Commission Chairman Ro Tu Chol.
During his tour, he “gave pep-talks to its workers making innovation in the efforts to increase the steel production. At an on the spot consultative meeting, the need was stressed “for the metal industrial sector to take the lead in a drive for hitting the targets of the economic strategy, actively accept the advanced technology to reduce the iron production cost and put the operation of Chuch’e-based production processes on a normal basis. …measures were taken for relevant units to provide the complex with sufficient raw materials and fuel necessary for the production of iron and steel.”
Pak Pong Ju also held a consultative meeting “of officials in the field of public health and relevant units at the Korea General Red Cross Hospital” to discuss “measures for consolidating the material and technical foundations at hospitals, calling on all the officials to become devoted servants for the popular masses, true to the Workers’ Party of Korea’s policy of giving priority to the people.”
