Painting Your Ceiling and Trims~A Great Design Idea!

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

With the spring season starting in 8 days, many of us are thinking about updating our home decor to welcome in the beautiful colors of spring. To give our space a nice fresh look, we can update our accessories and/or repaint a room or the whole house. If you are repainting, don’t neglect your ceiling and trims. They are areas in our home that don’t always get thought about for a home remodeling project. There are many reasons to paint your ceiling and trim works. Painting the ceiling alters your perception of the height of the room. In a large room, for instance, painting the ceiling a darker color than the walls makes it look lower. Doing the opposite makes the ceiling look higher. By paying attention to your ceiling and trims in your home remodeling project, you’ll make a visual impact on look and feel your room.

There are many instances where white is the best color. Just remember that there are many shades of white, so pick one that’s not pure white. A good choice is Dove White by Benjamin Moore; this color is very popular with a lot of designers because of its warm soft look. This could be the ideal color for your trim work if you want a color that highlights the wall color without being too contrasting or detracting.

In this room, the ceiling’s warm soft white color is a perfect tie in with the trim.

How pretty is this? The gold colored ceiling goes so well with the other gold-toned accessories in this room. It’s very elegant and also it’s a design trend for 2013.

Painting your ceiling and trim is just one of the many ways you can alter people’s perception of your room. If you are repainting your home for spring, I hope I’ve given you some ideas on how to paint the trim and that “fifth wall”, as most designers refer to the ceiling.

This post only scratches the surface of the possibilities for ceiling and trim work, and I’ll post more on this in at a later time. Next week, I’ll give you some design ideas for other areas of your home that you can remodel.
