Painting And Sculpture Together In One Piece Of Art, The Human Iris

By Lightandshadowsmith

My latest project uses a mixture of techniques and media:

First I sculpted the shape of an iris out of clay. Then I took a silicone mold of the sculpture and duplicates it using a mixture of ceramic powder and water. Then I covered the duplicates with the first layer of paint, poured a layer of resin over the sculpture, waited for it to dry, and then painted over it with acrylic paint. A few layers of resin and paint later, the result is a 3D painted sculpture of an iris.

I also made my own frames by hand out of clay and ceramic powder.

I plan to continue this project by adding other types of irises to the collection, like different animals or fantastic creatures. For now I have five variations of the human iris..
