Hello everyone.
I’m so glad it’s Friday and the weekend is about to start! But this weekend will be no ordinary one here in Maryland. Our local weather forecasters are predicting that the remnants of Hurricane Sandy are expected to hit our area starting Sunday. This means that we will have to be prepared for electrical outages and other storm damage.
On to a brighter subject: home design! I know that the thought of painting your hardwood floors might make you cringe. Flooring is one of the most expensive installations in your home, and so you don’t want to do anything that would ruin it. However, if you have a floor that’s in need of repair or refinishing and you just don’t feel like spending the time or money to do it, painting the floor may be the best solution to freshen it up and add character to it. The paint also adds drama and energy to a room and the surrounding furnishings and accessories. There are many design and colors options to choose, from solid colors to patterns. Just remember that once it’s finished you’ll have to live with it for a good while, so make sure you choose your paint choice and pattern wisely. A painted wood floor is a wonderful alternative to a stained floor. If you want to the grain of the wood to show through, you can thin down the paint. The idea is enhance the wood floor, not totally cover it up.
When choosing your paint, there are several things to remember. Glossy painted floors may look luxurious but they will also show every scratch. Satin finishes tend to be more forgiving, as they hide scratches while still providing some sheen. It’s worthwhile considering painting a pattern; it can be laid out and created through various paints and glazes.
if you’re still a little uncertain how a painted floor would look in your home, let me show you some design ideas that might inspire you. Next time you need to add life to your hardwood floor, consider trying something new and different!
