Wax on paper

Donald “C-Note” Hooker

Colors: red, orange, yellow, brown

Shapes: rectangles, square, triangle, circle

Textures: smooth

Inspiration behind the work: an ad image

Technique: dry medium (wax)

Cultural reference: African American R&B star

Comparisons: muse unknown

Artist intent: to amplify beauty

The color scheme was dictated by the color scheme in an already existing image. The existing image was from a magazine subscription postcard that had an image of a female R&B star that had previously been on its cover. Many of C-Note’s works in color are predominantly wax on a paper surface, from artist’s paper, typing paper, to cardboard. This Untitled work was created on archival art paper.

Like many of C-Note’s works that have a magazine model as its muse, the artist remains silent for fear of not meeting the expectations of the original. His sole inspiration was the image of the R&B African American female pop star, who brought a particular beauty and sophistication to the magazine postcard subscription, and that the world should feel as he felt, that it means something.
