I was recently given the opportunity to try out a local dairy's new milk called Over the Moon. With a new milk drinker in the house anytime I get to try out milk it makes me happy. So Over the Moon provided me with $10 to purchase milk for my family. With that I was able to purchase 1 1/2 gallons of milk because the milk was on sale for $2.99 for a half gallon. Normally it was $4.99!
Over the Moon milk only comes in half gallons. They have three different varieties of milk. There's fat free, low fat (1 %), and chocolate milk. I tried the low fat variety and the chocolate milk with my family.
My family's take on the milk!
All in all with the milk drinkers in my family (which is just us girls) this milk was a hit. I got all excited when my son asked for a glass of chocolate milk because I cannot get the boy to drink milk, but he only took a sip of it and didn't drink the rest. His baby sister ended up drinking it for him. I really hoped we had found a good calcium source for him. He did say he liked it, but actions speak louder than words.
My thoughts on the milk!
I tried the milk and was very impressed with the creaminess of it. Both the low fat milk and the chocolate milk were very creamy. I found the chocolate milk to not have a very chocolaty taste especially given the appearance of the milk. It looked like it would have a very nice chocolate taste, but I didn't notice it. I guess I like a lot of chocolate in my chocolate milk. I did enjoy the creaminess of it though.
My kids thoughts on the milk!
The kids really enjoyed the chocolate milk. My middle daughter said it was very chocolatey. No one else got a chance to drink the Low Fat milk, but me and the baby. And even I only snuck one glass out of that 1/2 gallon because the baby drank it all. I obviously can't tell you anything other than she would finish a bottle of the Over the Moon milk and want more. I can't say that's saying a lot from her though because since the introduction of milk she has loved it every which way you can serve it to her. It sure went fast though and since I only got one glass and she had the rest I'm guessing it was rather tasty in her mind too.
Some great selling points on this milk!
Of course milk needs to taste great, but it has to be good for you too. One of the first things I noticed about this milk was the amount of calcium and protein in it. In comparing my normal store bought brand of 1% Low Fat milk to Over the Moon my usual brand has 8 grams of protein while Over the Moon 1% Low Fat milk has 11 grams of protein. My brand has 30% of the daily recommended amount of calcium while Over the Moon has 40% of the recommended daily amount of calcium. That is needed for growing bones!
Most everything else is pretty comparable except in two areas. The Over the Moon milk has more potassium than my normal store brand milk. There's 370 mg of potassium in my usual brand and Over the Moon has 540 mg of potassium. One area that I know would be bad for some is the amount of sugar in the Over the Moon milk. Over the Moon has 17 grams of carbohydrates with 16 grams of sugar. My store brand only has 12 grams of carbs and 12 grams of sugar. I am guessing the extra sugar is what makes it creamier.

I would say we are Over the Moon with this milk. I am not Over the Moon with the price of it and it likely will only be an occasional treat in our house. I did also notice it has a longer shelf life than most milk does. That doesn't do me too much good right now since I have a little one who just can't get enough of the white stuff, but once upon a time we threw away milk because the rest of the milk drinkers drink it in waves. So I am wondering where this stuff was when the milk drinking in my house was not daily! This is a milk we would have in our house again when it's on sale for sure though!
