Hi friends! As excited as I was to share with you our kitchen, I'm even more excited to be sharing our amazing mud room/ locker area with you all today. I'm a huge creature of habit as well as someone whose a little bit, shall I admit, OCD when it comes to everything organizational so when thinking about a locker room/mud area for our family to use, I wanted something practical, all the storage we could fit and clean.
We were lucky to have such a great wall space to start with. When Zach and I first looked at this model home last year our immediate reaction was to make something of this big space and it seemed best to put a locker area here. I also wanted a bench for the kids to sit down and put their shoes on.
Originally I was thinking I wanted four lockers, one for each person in our family but our wall space could actually allow us to have five lockers if we wanted. I also wanted, as I said, as much storage as possible for baskets including items for all four seasons, storage for shoes as well as something that I could use some spots to decorate as a great extension coming off our kitchen.
When I saw this picture on Pinterest I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I shared it with our incredible family friend who built the entire thing in about three days in our garage. I almost cried watching him put everything together because it was absolutely incredible. We hired a painter to paint the bead board, the trim and inside where the baskets would be.
One of my favorite parts of this piece is the small area that we have as a "charging station" for us and the kids to use for our phones. We have so many cords all over the place ( which makes me cringe seeing it all over the counters ) that now it can hide in this little area! I'm sure our kids will be using it as the get older for their laptops or tablets too!
I found these gold hooks HERE and loved the accent it gave the mudroom. We stained the bench as close to our floor color and I'm pleased to say it came out an almost exact match. The baskets are extremely deep wicker baskets that we purchased HERE and are perfect for all the boots, sneakers and sandals my kids wear on a weekly basis ( because mother nature can never make up it's mind during this time of year ).
The baskets in the center shelves are from HERE. I love the polka dot to give the space some texture plus the wood handles add a great little accent to them. I think it just brings everything together! I also love that I can change out the top shelves with various items to decorate for the different seasons. I may be adding a few other organizational things down the road so stay tuned for an update in a few months too!
So what do you guys think? Have you created a locker/mud room area in your home?
